Aircraft Armor Solutions
ADI has the capability to up armor aircraft replacing currently used heavy steel Ballistic Protection System (BPS) with composite armor. ADI participated and qualified in a test conducted by the Technology Applications Program Office for a lightweight replacement solution to the current BPS used with rotary wing aircraft system (Fig. 6).

ADI’s armor package (Fig. 7) was one of the lightest solution (mass efficiency of 2.2) that was able to defeat the threshold threat with a V50 velocity that was more than 416 ft/s over the requirement. The armor system exceed all three evaluation criteria – V50, areal density and environmental protection against incidental exposure to aviation fluids and routine handling, impact and abrasion issues.
